A circular cycle of Lake Constance through three countries
against the backdrop of the Alps
Lake Constance, formed by the Rhine Glacier during the Ice Age, consists of
three bodies of water: the Obersee (upper lake), the Untersee (lower lake),
and a connecting stretch of the Rhine called the Seerhein. It is bordered by
three countries ‑ Germany, Switzerland and Austria ‑ and sits at the northern
f oot of the Alps. On this circular cycle around the lake, visit the medieval towns
of Constance, Stein, Meersburg and Lindau all while enjoying the amazing
landscape of the lake against the backdrop of the Alps. Soak up the atmosphere
in the picturesque towns lining the lakeshore with opportunities to swim and
kayak during the warmer months. The cycle terrain is ideal for families.
I TINERARY: DAY 1 | Arrive Constance/Konstanz 2 | Cycle to Reichenau
Island, by boat to Höri Peninsula, continue by bike to Stein am Rhein region
(45km) 3 | Cycle through the medieval town Stein am Rhein and along
the lake back to Constance, boat from Wallhausen to Uberlingen (45km)
4 | Cycle to Friedrichshafen and the Kressbronn region (50km) 5 | Cycle
to the Bavarian town Lindau, then through Bergenz and on to Höchst or
Rorschach (35/50km) 6 | Cycle along Lake Constance to Romanshorn and
back to Constance, optional round cycle to Mainsau island (35-55km) 7 | Trip

Cycle along the Aar and Rhine rivers from Interlaken on
Lake Thun to Lake Constance in Germany
The Aar Cycle Route begins in Interlaken on Lake Thun against the backdrop
of the Jungfrau, Mönch and Eiger mountains and is one of the most
well‑known cycle routes in Switzerland. Following mainly designated cycle
paths and some quiet regional roads, the route passes through the Swiss
capital of Bern, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the famous Toblerone
chocolate is made. Cycling along the Jura with its Baroque towns, the
convergence of the Aar and Rhine Rivers is an impressive sight en route to
the Rhine Falls. Reaching Lake Constance and the German town of the same
name, there is opportunity to reflect on the diversity of the landscapes
passed on this exhilarating cycle ride.
ITINERARY: DAY 1 | Arrive Interlaken 2 | Boat to Thun then by bike to
Bern (35km) 3 | Cycle along the Aare River and Lake Wohlen to Biel (50km)
4 | Cycle to the beautiful baroque city of Solothurn (30km) 5 | Continue by
bike along the Aare River to Aarau, once the capital of the Helvetic Republic
(60km) 6 | Cross the Swiss border to Germany as you cycle to Waldshut-
Tiengen (50km) 7 | Cycle to Schaffhausen via the Rheinfall waterfall (65km)
8 | Cycle to Stein am Rhein, continue along the lakeshore of Lake Constance
to Constance (50km) 9 | Trip concludes
