along picturesque valleys by bike
The Austrian Alps high above Innsbruck lend themselves to mountain hiking
whilst the valleys connecting alpine towns en route to Salzburg are ideal
for cycling. This is a trip which combines both activities to ensure you get
the most out of the region. From the ski town of Innsbruck to the 'Sound of
Music' town of Salzburg there are numerous natural and cultural attractions.
Hike to one of the highest waterfalls in Europe, pass tiny ski villages in the
Zillertal Valley, take a guided tour of the Moserboden dam or visit an old salt
mine or beer brewery. At night soak in the hospitality of our specially chosen
hotels whilst dining on local culinary delights.
ITINERARY: DAY 1 | Arrive Innsbruck 2 | Cable car to high above
the Inn Valley, walk the Zirbenweg Stone Pine Path, return to Innsbuck
by cable car (2.5-4hrs) 3 | Cycle along the Inn River past historic cities
to the entrance of the Zillertal Valley (45km) 4 | Gentle uphill cycle into
the Zillertal Valley, continue deep into the valley or take taxi from Zell
am Ziller to Krimml (25-40km) 5 | Walk past Krimml waterfall into the
national park, continue into the valley or return by taxi to Krimml (1.5-
4.5hrs) 6 | Cycle along the Salzach River Valley to Zell am See (65km)
7 | Hike around Zell am See-Kaprun (2-4hrs) 8 | Cycle around the
lake then through little hamlets and past impressive gorges to Lofer
(45-60km) 9 | Cycle along the river Saalach to Salzburg (50km) 10 | Trip
concludes

From the enchanting alpine lakes of the Salzkammergut, along quiet
cycle paths and mountain trails, this multi activity adventure delves into
the stunning landscapes to ensure a full appreciation of the Austrian
Lakes district. Cycle through pastures and alongside magnificent
mountain ringed lakes to the World Heritage town of Hallstatt, the
'Sound of Music' town of Mondsee and the old Kaiser town of Bad
Ischl. Explore old castles and ancient salt mines, hike forest trails to
view striking glaciers and soak up the warm hospitality of carefully
handpicked mountain hotels and guesthouses.
ITINERARY: DAY 1 | Arrive Lake Wolfgangsee 2 | Walk to Lake
Schwarzensee (4-5hrs) 3 | Cycle via Mondsee to Lake Attersee (40-55km)
4 | Cycle to Bad Ischl (45km (with train) or 65km) 5 | Follow the brine
pipeline and cross high pastures to Altaussee, bus to Bad Aussee (5-6hrs)
6 | Cycle to Hallstatt (30-42km) 7 | Walk along alpine trails on the flanks of
Mt Krippenstein (3-8hrs) 8 | Ferry to Hallstatt, cycle to Lake Wolfgangsee
(35-45km) 9 | Trip concludes
