Experience the highlights of Switzerland by bike
The famous German poet, Johann Wolfgang Goethe was enamoured by
the alpine landscapes of Switzerland and the ideal balance between well
ordered hamlets and grand mountain views. Today, the snow capped
mountains, wide lakes and green pastures with traditional wooden houses
continue to be a highlight of any travel through the country. Witnessing the
u nfolding countryside at handlebar level from the charming lakeside city of
Zurich to the alpine wonderland surrounding Interlaken is both unique and
inspiring. Following a mainly dedicated cycle path the route winds its way
b etween the towns of Lucerne, the capital city of Bern and the baroque city
of Solothurn, past castles, thermal springs and the picturesque Rheinfall
waterfall near Schaffhausen. At night stay in comfortable family run hotels
totruly soak up the famous Swiss hospitality.
I TINERARY: DAY 1 | Arrive Zurich 2 | Cycle along the shores of Lake
Z urich then by train to Einsiedeln (35km) 3 | Cycle through typical Swiss
countryside to Lucerne (75km) 4 | Continue cycle through stunning
mountain vistas, then train over Brüning mountain pass to Interlaken
( 65km) 5 | By boat on Lake Thun then cycle to Bern (40km) 6 | Cycle to
the Swiss watch-making town of Biel/Bienne (55km) 7 | Short cycle to the
B aroque city of Solothurn (30km) 8 | Cycle along the Aare River to the town
o fAarau (60km) 9 | Continue cycling along the river to the "Wasserschloss"
o rwater castle and the spa town of Baden, before concluding in Zurich

An exhilarating traverse of the high trails around
Switzerland's famous peak, the Matterhorn (Cervin)
The Matterhorn, or Cervin, is one of the world's most renowned and historic
mountains. A near perfect pyramid, it stands at an altitude of 4478m above
sea level, and is surrounded by some of the most spectacular alpine scenery
in the world and typical Swiss villages. The trail around the Matterhorn
crosses between Italy and Switzerland, adding a cultural dimension to the
journey. With high passes and steep ascents aided by steel ropes it is one
of our more challenging hikes. However, with a good level of fitness and
prior outdoor experience, this is an immensely rewarding traverse affording
spectacular views throughout including some of the highest peaks in the
Alps such as Dent Blanche (4357m) and Zinalrothorn (4221m).
ITINERARY: DAY 1 | Arrive St Niklaus, walk to Grüben (6-7hrs) 2 | Cross
the Forclaz Pass (2874m) to Zinal at the base of Dent Blanche (6hrs)
3 | Walk through flowered meadows surrounded by the famous peaks of
Zinalrothorn (4221m), Obergabelhorn (4063m) and Dent Blanche (4357m)
to the village of Hauderes (6hrs) 4 | Ascend glacier and the Col Collon
(3082m) and descend to the Italian hamlet of Prarayer (2000m) (7-8hrs)
5 | To Breuil Cervinia (6-7hrs) 6 | Walk to the famous ski resort of Zermatt
(6hrs) 7 | Walk to Tasch (5-6hrs), trip concludes
