Cycle through the historic cities, sights and landscapes
of the eastern Languedoc‑Roussillon region
With more vineyards than Bordeaux, a large chunk of the famed French
Mediterranean coastline and numerous ancient sites, the region of
Languedoc‑Roussillon's diverse landscapes and wealth of culture provide a spectacular setting for a cycle
journey. A self guided cycling trip is an ideal way to experience the fascinating highlights and best kept secrets
of the region as it allows you to stop and enjoy what you like, for how long you like. From the canal ways and
beaches of Sète on the Mediterranean, the route travels along the coast to the university city of Montpellier
which boasts grand buildings, great museums and a vibrant cafe scene. Riding on through the Camargue
natural area you'll arrive in Arles, just inside Provence, which inspired many painters, most famously Vincent
Van Gogh. A highlight of the journey is spending time in the elegant town of Nîmes where every turn of the
corner offers a glimpse into ancient and medieval times. Visits to the famous Pont du Gard and the Provence
city of Avignon round off this exceptional cycle experience.
