Sample cider, calvados and cheese and visit the WWII
landing sites as you cycle classic Normandy countryside
The Pays d'Auge of Lower Normandy is literally blanketed in apple
orchards and home to the Route du Cidre, where numerous cider
and calvados (apple brandy) producers reside in their half‑timbered
houses. Beginning in either Honfleur or Bayeux, the focus of this trip
is firmly on the gastronomical delights of the region together with a
well thought‑out cycle route which showcases the land of William the Conqueror. The journey begins with an
engaging cycle through the pretty region where tastings of the calvados and cider are an essential part of the
local experience, as are visits to the cellars and pressing sheds. A fascinating part of the journey encompasses
the historic sites of World War II including the German Battery of Longues‑sur‑Mer and Omaha Beach, where
the Allied Invasion took place, the Pegasus Bridge and the American War Cemetery at Colleville‑sur Mer.

Cycle the coast before continuing inland through the Pays d'Auge
to the pretty village of Beuvron-en-Auge (50 or 65km)

Loop cycle to visit the chateau of Crevecoeur and
sample Calvados at Cambremer (36 or 58km)

Through the Dives Marsh and Caen plain to Benouville (38

Cycle along the Orne Canal and via the Canadian Museum in Courseulles to Bayeux (45 or 60km)
