Self Guided Walking Holidays in Turkey

Experience all of Turkey on an unforgettable self guided walking tour

Bordering Asia and Europe, Turkey is a natural bridge between the two worlds of the West and the Orient. Turkey boasts amazing diversity in its geography, geology and climate, varying from extremes such as the subtropical forest of the Black Sea coast to the evergreen pine forests of the Mediterranean, snow capped mountains, rolling steppe and rich agricultural valleys.

Our self-guided walking holidays in Turkey focus on the the Lycian Way and Cappadocia. The Lycian Way is one of Turkey's most famous walking trails and while the full trail is 500kms long, our Lycian Way Coastal Walk takes in the highlights of the well-marked trail. During a series of day walks you will discover sections of the route with well preserved Greek and Roman cities and a Lycian necropolis lost in vegetation.

Cappadocia is a surreal landscape of conical shaped, limestone formations. Its contrasting moonscapes and valleys filled with rock-hewn churches and dwellings and fairy chimneys are nestled under the snow-capped mountains of Mount Aergius. On our Cappadocia on Foot self-guided walking holiday you will explore the lunar landscapes and fascinating ancient sites to reach the highlights of the region such as Mustafapasa, Ortahisar and Goreme.

Our self-guided walking holidays are fully flexible which means you can normally start your walk on any day during the season and customise by adding extra days for resting or sightseeing. As you're walking independently, you're free to follow the trail at your own pace. You set your own pace as you are not limited by the constraints of group travel. You are free to shorten or lengthen your walk as the terrain permits and can even take a day off, although you may need to travel onto your next accommodation by taxi or public transport in order to do so. As long as you are reasonably active you will be able to find a suitable tour and all of our tours are graded to help you choose the right walk for you.

Hotels

In cities or large towns you will be accommodated in 3 to 4 star, twin share properties that are centrally located, comfortable and reliable.

Breakfasts are Turkish style and will generally include cheese, olives, eggs, cucumber, tomatoes, jam, honey, bread, tea or coofee and fruits. If evening meals are included these will be a fixed menu; soup or hot and cold appetisers with bread, a main course usually kebab varieties or fish and salad and then wonderfully sweet baklava or fruits to finish off your meal. When meals are not inlcuded why not try local dishes such as Dolma, peppers or courgettes stuffed with with rice and spices or a Lahmacun, a thin and crispy round of dough topped with minced meat, a squeeze of lemon which is rolled up and ready to eat.
