Self Guided Walking Holidays in Wales

Experience the delights of Wales on a self guided walking tour

With a pretty coastline of sandy beaches, sea-battered cliffs, sleepy fishing villages and dynamic cities, Wales makes an attractive base for digging into Britain’s rich history and natural beauty and there's no better way to explore Wales than on a self guided walking holiday.

Head inland and find Britain’s longest archaeological monument—Offa’s Dyke. Commissioned in the 8th century by King Offa of Mercia, this ancient earthen rampart spans a total length of 177 mi (285 km) and forms the (rough) border between modern-day Wales and England.

Opened in 1971, the Offa’s Dyke Path is a National Trail tracing the length of the original earthen border, giving walkers access to the pristine Welsh-English borderlands. Way marked trails lead hikers through idyllic villages and rolling pastures, along ancient aqueducts and canal towpaths, crossing rugged moorlands and sweeping valleys dotted with medieval bridges, ruined castles and striking rocky outcrops—an immersive cultural and wilderness experience not to be missed!

Often family run, these charming hotels range from 2 to 4 stars and provide access to local living thanks to your hosts. The hospitality is generous and their local knowledge is invaluable. Where possible, we choose locations that add to your experience.

Bed & breakfasts (B&B's)

Simple yet rich in character, B&B's chosen are clean, comfortable and run by hosts that help add to your experience.

Guesthouses

Similar to bed & breakfasts, these family-owned accommodations are clean and comfortable. Rooms with en suites generally have a shower but no bath due to space. There may be a separate room with a bath tub.

Country Inns

Enjoy the cosy country setting and convenience of staying in a comfortable property that is attached to a restaurant or pub with rooms usually upstairs.

Breakfast is included on all our walks. Wales is famed for its many artisan food producers and restaurants that pay tribute to Welsh traditional dishes.  Fuel your day with a traditional Welshcake or try Welsh Rarebit that dates back as early as the 18th century.  Warm up in evening with a bowl of Cawl, a traditional soup similar to a stew filled with seasonal ingredients. Wales is also famous for its lamb which may be paired with leek, the Welsh national emblem.
